Show Emery County Republicans Nominate Candidates Representative WM. J. SEELY, Castledale 4 Year Commissioner PETER N1ELSON, Huntington 2-Year Commissioner WM. RICHARDSON, Ferron Clerk C. T. BOWEN, Green River Recorder A. G. JEWKES, Castledale Treasurer G. M. BURR, Emery Sheriff HENRY THOMPSON Ferron Assessor L. W. PETERSON, Emery Attorney ' U. E. CURTIS, Orangeville Superintendent of Schools E. W. ERICKSON, Cleveland Surveyor AMOS WAKEFIELD, Huntington The republicans of Emery county in scheduled convention last Saturday named the above unusually strong county ticket, and that, too, with the least serious contesting of places that has been seen for several like occasions. Meeting in the county courthouse at about eli ven o'clock with all of the larger precints having a full attendance the meeting was immediately called to order by cou ty 'hairman, Henry Thompson. E. J. Cook of Green River and W. H. Curtis of Ferron were acclaimed ac-claimed chairman and secretary, after which the call was read and the formation forma-tion of the various committees proceeded proceed-ed with. The following were named to represent repre-sent the various precincts on the credential, cre-dential, resolutions, ahd order of business busi-ness committees: Green River, T. R. burner, E. J. C - k, C. T. Bo wen, Cleveland, 7os. Rasmussen, E. W. Er-ickson, Er-ickson, L. P. Larsen, Hunting ton, Wm. Green, Brigham Ni Ken, I. J. Olsen, Castledale, S P. Snow, jr., A. G. Jewkes, jr., George Jorgensen, Orangeville, Orange-ville, U. E. Curtis, E. P. Cox, Wm. Fox, Ferron, F. A. Killpack, Henry Thompson, Samuel Singleton, Emery, B. J. Peacock, sr., S. Olsen, L. W. Peterson. After a short intermission the committees com-mittees report that the temporary or- ganization be made perfect was adopted Considerable discussion arose over the adoption of the platform as drawn up by that committee, an overwhelming vote being given favoring its reconsideration reconsider-ation after the same had been passed at first reading. Originally reading, "We pledge ourselves to favor the direct dir-ect primary, initiative and referendum, the open hearing of committees in the legislature, with proper protection a-gainst a-gainst corruption. We also favor the simplifying of the code of criminal procedure", pro-cedure", the same was adopted with the words " initiative and referendum" striken out. The election of candidates was proceeded pro-ceeded with immediately upon reassembling reas-sembling of delegates after the lunch-ecn lunch-ecn given them at the Anderson hotel by the Castledale candidates. The expected ex-pected serious contesting of several of the officers did not materialize, most of the big fight being disposed of in caucuses cau-cuses of the precincts interested. Only two offices were openly fought for, viz., treasurer and assessor. Cleveland put up the name of Joseph Rasmussen a-gainst a-gainst Emery's G. M. Burr for treasurer, treasur-er, and Huntington placed again in the race of assessor, J. H. Killpack, who has so long and well held that position, against L. W. Peterson. Messrs. Burr and Peterson won out, however. The rest of the ticket was elected by acclamation, accla-mation, rules being suspended, and all with varying degrees of whole hearted enthusiasm. From the little discontent ' expressed it is thought that the above ticket has the support of every man (and woman) claiming membership in the grand old party. Several of the men named are incumbents of the various var-ious offices and have thus laid claim to the generous support they were accorded accor-ded by their party, while others, though new, are well prepared for officers at the beginning of the coming year, if elected. Messrs. Henry Thompson and F. A. Killpack. who rave acquitted themselves most faithfully of the chairmanship and secretaryship of the county committee for the past several terms were reluctantly released, and Messrs. S. P. Snow, Sr., and Len Huntington of Orangeville, were given these jobs with unanimous approval notwithstanding their expressed lack of enthusiasm at the prospect. |
