Goal of the program is to have students spend a day with practitioners from each agency in the justice system, following them through their days work and being able to ask questions and receive answers, he explained. An introduction to the system is achieved by bringing in lawyers from the community to talk to the students, he said. Students then go outside the classroom and school to explore the system in depth, he added. The students have gone for a with West Valley City police officers, they have visited and observed action in circuit court, small claims court and justice of the peace courts. They have spent a day with the and city planners, another 'mayor with the governor and visited the legislature, visited an attorneys office and will visit the juvenile court, jail and detention center. Each time the students go on a field trip, the teacher takes them out to lunch for a break and discussion period. They get to see a different aspect of the teacher, among other things, he remarked. Students dont have to make up the work missed by going on the field trips, but they are required to keep a daily log of their activities. ride-a-lon- Given At Law They find it interesting to discover, for instance, what the mayor does besides hold meetings, what the police do as they ride around in their cars.
