Coach Mike Folsters Granger high Lancers pushed their record to Tuesday Murray, Beats Colts By with a 4 win over Ogden. The Lancers were to test Region Three competition for the first time yesterday (Wednesday), hosting Skyline after press time. They will play at Granite Tuesday. Tuesdays test got tense in the final inning when Ogden rallied from 2 to threaten to snatch the victory. Folster, who had replaced pitcher Brian Joy with sophomore LeRoy Woodard, went back to Joy for the final out after a couple of hits and a key error brought the Tigers to within a run. Granger never trailed as Darren Woodard held the Tigers scoreless over three innings before giving way to Joy. A pair of Lancers crossed the plate in the third. Jeff Willardson walked and scored when Scott Van Orden doubled to the fence in left and Greg Wilder chased Van Orden home with a sharp single. In the fourth, a double by Keith Eyre, an error and a base hit by Willardson resulted in a Lancer run and two more scored in the fifth when Ogden got sloppy in the field. An error, a single by Joy a pair of walks and a passed ball helped the cause. Ogden scored single runs in the fourth and sixth before adding a pair in the top of the seventh. GRANGER. After dropping a tough dual meet to Murray last Wednesday, Granger ran away to easy track meet victories Tuesday over Cottonwood. Coach Dennis Dawsons Spartans 9 in the boys edged the Lancers competition and 4 in the girls to complete the sweep. Granger bounced back with a convincing win over 7 in the boys and 7 Cottonwood, in the girls. Murray will host Judge in a dual meet Wednesday at 3 p.m. The Spartans survived the loss of big points in two field events to edge the Lancer boys. Granger swept the pole vault and long jump, with David Johnston winning the pole and Pendleton winning the long jump. The latter also won the discus and finished second to Murrays Phil Chapman in the 110 high hurdles. Murray countered with a sweep in the high jump, won by Carl Durfey with Chris Knapp second and Phil Chapman third. The Spartans also dominated the relays, winning the 440 (Bryan Johnson, Chapman, Matt Housel, 5-- 70-6- 68-6- 94-4- John Madsen), 5-- 0 non-leag- 85-4- the medley (Johnson, Madsen, John Pratt, Cory Bringhurst) and the mile (Pratt, Ramon Zabriskie, Jim Remy, Bringhurst). The rest of the squad is composed of underclassmen and some of the starting berths are not solid because of the lack of action. Battling at first base are Todd Christensen and Roland Marquez. Todd Rush ton and Huish play second base and the third base candidates are Jim Paulson and John Clark. Behind the plate will be junior Jon Sneddon or sophomore Allen Tygeson. Inskeep will be in left, Greg Jones in center and Joe Gallegos in right. Joining Huish in mound duties will be Wayne Jones, Brian Densley and Marquez and lefty Greg Jones in relief. Sophomores who could see varsity action include Kirk Woodruff, Shannon Bearden, Kenny Webb, Mike Monserett, Scott Argyle and Kelly Goodfellow. Unck admitted his squad was chaffing for action. We cant even determine how far we have to go, he said, noting that Granger appeared to be the top team.
