The chapel, located at 275 Park Street, has recently undergone extensive remodeling work. The open house, which will be held from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m., will give the public an opportunity to view the new changes and meet local church officers. The Park Street chapel was originally dedicated on March 19, 1952, by Matthew Cowley, an apostle of the LDS Church. At that time it was the home of the Layton 4th LDS Ward. Sev- eral years later the Layton 7th LDS Ward moved into the building. The two wards shared the church until Jan. 17,1965 at which time the 13th ward was created from the 4th and 10th wards. The 7th ward moved to a new building and the 13th ward moved in. On Oct. 1, 1972 the 18th Ward was created from the 4th and 13th wards. The three wards utilizing the facility necessitated that the building be enlarged. A new wing was added on the east side of the building and dedicated on Nov. 2, 1975. Later, in 1977 the 13th ward moved into the Layton West Stake house. The 31st ward was created in June of 1982 and moved into the building at which time the 4th ward relocated to the West Gentile Chapel. The present remodeling has included no additions but has involved major interior renovating. The public is invited to the open house which will include a tour and history of the building and displays. Refreshments will be served.
