The hammer falls on the cap, which fires the charge, and BOOM. In addition there are a variety of pistols, from the old single shot flintlock and caplock, to the Colt and Remington revolvers of Old West fame. Or, if you really want a thrill, look in on the cannon match. The cannon are reproductions many to of Civil War artillery. Most shoot a precise scale d solid lead balls, though some fire projectiles. They fire on targets at 100 yards with amazing accuracy, and the velocity of the projectile is quite high. There are also a few trench mortars which loop their projectiles (usually a concrete filled tin can) high into the air then down on the target. The rifles, incidentally, are also amazingly accurate. Many of them develop velocities equivalent to smokeless powder rifle (2,300 feet per say a .30-3Most of the matches at the Golden Spike second). shoot are shot at 50 yards, though many of the rifles are deadly at 200 yards or more.
