Here is how the practice run came out. I track last Saturday. I just cant believe we ran all the races with the sun shining and everyone in sweaters and shirt sleeves. December weather hasnt been that kind to us in previous years. What a day we had. Moms, Ive never seen kids have so much fun. Those piles of dirt were alive with them, looked like an ant hill and what we call our duck pond, was mighty tempting to more than one little boy. I would suggest the kids come in something that is dirt proof or at least washer, dryer proof and let them have their Colts Im sure all the members went to the track with mixed emotions. So many hard and cold hours of labor had gone into developing the facility, would everything work, and how about that mud on parts of the track? That blizzard of last Sunday left us with some puddles and quite deep ones, would any hjrses get lame. ..oh, so many things could happen. Just Beautiful Everything was just beautiful. The gates worked super, what could go wrong with Bob Peterson as the gate starter? The track is wide enough so the mud could be avoided, with a little shifty driving on the part of the drivers and it was done. Now, we had to have something besides horses, drivers and association members, and I do mean you. It was a thrill to see so many of our old friends at the new track. Its fun to fun those races, but we need you there cheering and having a good time to put the frosting on the cake. Next week bring the whole family and all your friends, it will be for real and you will see some hard fought for wins. It was great to have Commissioner and Mrs. Don Chase with us Saturday. Mr. Chase has supported us in every endeavor and we do appreciate him and the other commissioners. We are so very happy over the support the different business houses have given us. They have helped us out by advertising on our programs each week. See who they are and stop and see what they have you need and just before Christmas just might be a good time. The Box Elder County Bank has been a staunch supporter of the horse races in this area for years. This year they are helping us with our programs and also have added $150 towards the Colt Futurity. You will hear about this later. The first colt race will be on Dec. 20. These are the babies of the race track and it is best not to run them in too rigorous a program. Here is how the first official race of the Golden Spike Chariot association will be run. Be sure and be there.
