Copies of the budget were made available Wednesday with a public hearing scheduled Friday morning at 9 a.m. in the commission office, downstairs in the county courthouse. The proposed expenditures compare with $1,880,295 estimated for the current e year. They represent an high figure for the county and reflect the influence of inflation. The largest single jump will come in salaries for county employes. Everyone on the county payroll except elected will benefit from a pay officials adjustment in the coming year. Cost of pushing salaries upward is pegged at $91,000. Commission Chairman Don Chase said the increase will average about $50 for each employe. Some will get a little more, some a bit less. mi receive increment adjustments which will cost the county $9,400 for deputies plus $1,800 for jailers and the same amount for dispatchers. The higher pay costs will be financed by a .98 mill increase in the property tax levy. Major increases in anticipated revenue are found in the property tax. It was the first in three drawings sponsored by the merchants committee. Those assembled for the event enjoyed pleasant, sunny weather. But sponsors hope a larger crowd will be on hand for the second drawing this Saturday, Dec. 13. The proposed county budget projects an unappropriated surplus of $46,685. i i Three Brigham City firemen, each with years service in the Brigham City Volunteer Fire department, were honored at a special banquet held recently at the Brigham City fire station. The men, Lowell Duke Baron, Doyle Packer and Gordon Reeves, were given special engraved watches and pins by Mayor Harold Felt. All three men have served as chief of the local department as well as most other offices. Other men who have received the honor for service in the Brigham City department include Basil Fife, Glenn Andersen and Nolan Jensen. 25 ( The banquet was held at the Brigham City fire department with firemen cooKing the meal themselves. Besides the mayor and his wife most members of the Brigham City council and their wives were on hand for the occasion as well as firemen and their wives. Brigham City Chief Ward Secrist presided at the meeting with a few words given by City Councilman Dale Baron. ! Baron, the councilman in charge of the fire department and also the brother of the one of the recipients, related some of the humorous instances over the years he has known about which involved the three men. He also cited the many hours of lost sleep they have suffered through service with the volunteer force. USBA member of the 'Box Elder Board of Education, Arnold Thompson, Brigham City, was elected a regional director with the Utah School Boards association at its A Grading and drainage work is currently underway on the interstate highway project with LeGrand Johnson Construction company, Logan, as the prime contractor.
