Sometimes when vou are making those 7 or 8 dozen cookies to share, it seems like a lot of work in the middle of holiday hassle. 'a cup chopped walnuts Cream shortening, sugar, vanilla Beat jn eggs and add melted chocolate Sift together flour, baking powder and salt Add alternately with milk Add nuts Chill 3 hours or overnight. Form in balls; roll on confectioners' sugar. Place on greased cookie sheet 2 3 inches apart Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes Cool slightly; remove from sheet. Makes RUSSIAN TEACAKES cup toft butter or margarine 1 ' cap lifted confectioners sugar about 46. CHOCOLATE CRINKLES cup shortening ' butter. Sift together dry ingredients. Add sugars to butters, creaming well Add egg and vanilla. Blend in dry ingredients. Shape dough into balls using rounded teaspoonful for each. Roll balls in sugar and place on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. Remove from oven and place a candy kiss or star on top of cookie, pressing down firmly so cookie cracks around edge. Return to oven to bake 2 to 5 minutes 23 cap granulated sugar 1 2 teaspoons vanilla 1 2 (1 eance) squares 2 caps sifted 2 teaspoons baking cut i teaspoon salt 34 unsweetened chocolate, melted flour powder 13 cup milk longer. Melba Sauce pkg. (10 oz.) frozen raspberries in heavy lyrup, thawed and DIET teaspoons cornstarch cap currant jelly Stir together raspberries with syrup and cornstarch in small saucepan. Add jelly. Bring to boil over medium heat, stirring constantly until jelly CENTER 1 lMi 'i melts and mixture thickens. Chill. Use as a dessert topping. Yield: About l'i cups Ham Asparagus Strata is an innovative use of Easter leftovers. Glamorous Easter Leftovers Stretching your leftover Easter ham diced cooked ham into a second meal is a laudable aim. Transforming it into a glamorous main dish is a creative coup! All you need to bring it off are some lef- .) frozen cot asparagus, package thawed and drained 4 eggs, beaten 3 tablespoons mustard 2 cups milk Cut doughnut shapes from bread slices using doughfiut cutter or sharp knife (frozen sandwich bread works best); put aside doughnut rounds. Place doughnut "holes" and remaining bread scraps in an even layer on bottom of shallow casserole. Make layers of cheese, ham and asparagus on top of bread and arrange reserved doughnut shapes on top. Combine remaining ingredients blending with wire whisk or fork. Spoon evenly over top of casserole soaking doughnut shapes. Refrigerate several hours and bake in 325 degree oven 1 hour and 10 minutes or until 1 tover ham bits, perhaps leftover asparagus and this nev; recipe for Ham and Asparagus Strata. Ham and Asparagus Strata puffs up like a souffle with crusty layers on top and bottom and a smooth custard - like texture in between. And it gets a zippy flavor from a combination of cheddar cheese and prepared yellow mustard. This hearty leftover gem can be easily ahead, refrigerated and then Erepared serving. HAM AND ASPARAGUS STRATA slices white bread Vk cups each grated cheddar cheese and 8 (10-oz- middle of strata is set. 6 servings. NOTE: If desired, use IVi cups cooked fresh asparagus pieces in place of frozen. HAM AND CHEESE TOSS 5 caps mixed greens 14 caps each sliced raw cauliflower and zucchini 2 cups julienne strips cooked ham 1 cop julienne strips swiss cheese Combine ingredients and toss lightly. Serve with Russian Sour Cream Dressing. 6 servings. 1 envelope (IMhh.) soar cream sauce mix 23 cop milk ' cop chili sauce Dash cayenne or red pepper Combine ingredients and blend using wire whisk or fork. Let stand 10 minutes.
