The exhibit includes parade banners, costumed dolls, commemorative com-memorative ribbons, and other items created for celebrations dating back to the ISSOs. Photographs of a number of Pioneer Day parades and activities activi-ties are also part of the display, according to Robert O. Davis, exhibit curator. Among the artifacts shown is a bonnet worn by Margaret Mary Young. Queen of the Pioneer Days celebration in 19.. togeth er with a photograph of Young taken by Bill Shipler. Three dolls dressed like Pioneer Centennial Queen Calleen Robinson and her attendants. Marie Barnett and Mary Louise Gardner, in 1947. are shown together with a photograph photo-graph of the pioneer parade royalty roy-alty in their colorful dresses. The center piece to the display is an inscribed buffalo skull displayed dis-played in a box labeled "Bulletin of the Plains." Davis said that the skull, which carries a message dated June 3. 1847. may actually have been created for the Pioneer Jubilee of 1897. The information on the skull does not match the record of miles traveled trav-eled that day kept by diarists in the pioneer company." he said. B. H. Roberts discovered the error on the skull when he wrote his history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Roberts concluded that the skull had been created to symbolize the wooden message boards left along the trail by the original pioneer pio-neer company. Hanging over the eye-catching exhibit is a large "Pioneer Centennial Banner" used in the Days of "47 parade 50 years ago. Ribbons given to surviving pioneers pio-neers in 1897 and commemorative commemora-tive cup and plate are among the other -memorabilia assembled for the display.
