Show Dinosaur Days - Wednesday, August 7, 1985 Vernal ExpressAdvertiser 1 1 Places to see and things to do in Dinosaur Land DINOSAUR GARDENS AND MUSEUM The newly constructed Dinosaur Gardens is considered to be one of the finest exhibits of its kind in the world. The Gardens are designed to appear exactly as the area did in the age of the dinosaurs, and are "inhabited" by 14 life-size prehistoric creatures. Well-known sculptor Elbert Porter spent almost 15 years creating the incredibly lifelike dinosaurs. The million-dollar exhibit features a small lake, swamp area and a rock outcropping with bridge and waterfall. Visit Dinosaur Gardens daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the summer months and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the rest of the year. The Natural History Museum, adjacent to the Gardens is a historical showcase of Dinosaurland, from the prehistoric to the present. Displays include outstanding dinosaur fossils, minerals and Indian artifacts. FLAMING GORGE DAM-Travel north on Utah 44 (40 miles from Vernal) Ver-nal) . Travel 45 miles north from Vernal on Utah 44. DINOSAUR QUARRY VISITOR CENTER The Dinosaur National Monument is a strikingly modern facility built over the "working face" of a dinosaur quarry. That means you can actually watch the progress of patient chipping to expose ex-pose the fossilized remains of the creatures. On the ground floor, a mural and miniaturized display shows the visitors the prehistory of the region and its long since extinct inhabitants. On the upper deck, you arc eye level with Brontosaurus and friends. These petrified skeletal remains re-mains are better than half exposed In the 2o foot face of the quarry. There arc partial skeletons visible for at least nine dinosaur species that lived and died here and were preserved In the then soft, sandy river banks. A shuttle bus takes visitors from the parking arra to the quarry site. While at the quarry, visit Split Mountain and Green lUvrr Cam pKrmimts, 3 mile east of the visitor center. Also, lake a trip to Jomc Morris cabin.
