The Glines 2nd team jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Bob Noel and Kim Peterson singled with two outs and Noel scored on an error. Two counters were scored in the bottom of the first for a 2-1 lead by Glines 3rd. Robert Nelson, who returned from a UBIC Softball tournament tour-nament in Roosevelt, led off with a triple. Smuin hit a fly ball out, but Nelson scored to tie up the game at 1-1. Geno Lucero delivered a sacrifice fly to drive , in ' Craig Monsen, who had tripled. Monsen's run gave Glines 3rd a 21 lead. Gary Monsen doubled, but Junior Tripp flied out. Tripp, Peterson and Rasmussen also took part in the UBIC Tournament, Saturday morning morn-ing and afternoon. Glines 2nd netted zero counters in the top of the second, but Glines 3rd scored two for a 4-1 lead in their half of the inning. Dave Gentry tripled and scored on an inside the park homer by Troy Ostler. , The Glines 3rd team added three more runs in the bottom of the third inning for a 7-1 lead. Smuin was walked walk-ed and C. Monsen doubled. G. Monsen singled in Smuin and C. Monsen with a 6-1 lead. Tripp gained a double and knocked in G. Monsen with run number seven. Glines 2nd decided to make a game of it when they erupted for four J counters in the top of the fourth to cut Glines 3rd's lead to two runs at 7-5. Pye led off with a double and Noel singled. Pye scored on a fly ball by Peterson. Kim Johnson and Marty Olson singled. Cochran and Johnson scored on the hit by Olson, who moved mov-ed to third on errors and scored when the ball hit some Glines 3rd bats. John Henderson and Dusty Mecham singled, but Kevin Rhodes flied out for the third out. Glines 3rd didn't worry about their slim lead as they just went out and acquired some more runs, tons and tons of them for a total of seven in the bottom of the fourth. Steve Robb singled to lead off the inning and Gentry ripped a double. Robb scored on a fly ball by Ostler and Tad Coon gained a ground rule double to score Gentry. Nelson singled singl-ed in Coon for a 10-3 lead. Smuin rippt'd out a single and C. Monsen doubled in Nelson. A three run homer by Lucero gave Glines 3rd a 14-5 lead. G. Monsen singled, but the next two batters Tripp and Ronnie Ron-nie Harflinger flied out. Glines 2nd just refused to give up as they scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning to come within three runs at 14-11. Ray Miller singled and scored on a base hit by Noel. Peterson got on base on an error and another run scored. A single by Greg Cochran knocked in Peterson. Olson tripled and sent home Cochran and Johnson. A single by Mark Randals scored Olson. The next batter grounded out. Glines 3rd continued to pour out the runs as they added three in the fifth and four in the sixth for a 21-11 lead. Robb ripped out a double and scored on a double by Gentry. A double by Ostler scored Gentry and Smuin singled in Ostler in the fifth. Lucero led off with his second homer of the game in the bottom of the sixth and errors put Tripp, Robb and Lance Workman on the bases. Tripp scored and Ostler tripled in Gentry and Workman for a 21-11 lead. Glines 2nd's first two batters singled singl-ed In the top of the seventh and they added one more run to lose the championship cham-pionship game to Glines 3rd by the score of 21-12. Maeser 4th beat Vernal 6th In the first round and Glines 2nd knocked off Jensen 2nd. Vernal 8th beat Naples 1st and Maeser 3rd beat Vernal Ver-nal 4th. Glines 3rd downed Davis 2nd and Vernal 5th "beat Maeser 2nd. Ashley 1st beat Vernal 7th and Glines 1st downed Davis 2nd. Maeser 4th beat Glines 2nd in the second round and Maeser 3rd beat Vernal 8th". Glines 3rd downed Ashley 1st and Glines 1st defeated Ashley 1st. Maeser 3rd beat Maeser 4th and Glines 3rd downed Glines 1st in third round games. Glines 3rd reached the title game when they downed Maeser 3rd. Glines 2nd downed Naples 1st, Jensen 2nd, Glines 1st, Maeser 4th and Maeser 3rd in order to reach the title game. - Vernal tennis meet to begin Monday The Vernal CityUintah County Vernal Express Open Tennis Tournament Tourna-ment will begin singles action, Monday, Mon-day, August 12. The tourney is being co-sponsored by Basin Sports. Doubles action will begin August 26 and mixed doubles is set to begin September! Entry deadlines are Friday, August 9, singles; August 23, doubles and mixed doubles, August 30. A free dufflebag with Vernal Oprn printed on it will be presented to all tournament tourna-ment players. The singles meet will be double elimination. The doubles meet will be single elimination and will contain a consolation division. Interested tennis contestants can register for the tournament at the Vernal Express, 54 North Vernal Avenue or at the Vernal City Offices, 500 East Main. Contestants can also mail their entry fee to Vernal Express, Ex-press, P.O. Box 1010 or Vernal City Offices. Name, phone number, category, division and paid fee are required.
