Also in the picture is LaJean Rasmussen, right. R & R of Roosevelt captured first place. The game that didn't want to end finally came to a halt when L & L nipped nip-ped Vernal's H & H Bico, 5-3, in 12 innings, in-nings, Saturday and delivered a mighty blow to H & H's first place hopes as they finished second with a 5-2 mark. R & R of Roosevelt placed first with a 6-1 mark and their only loss was to H & H. A win over L & L would have given H & H a 6-1 mark and they would have won the championship due to their win over R & R, but the setback to L & L ruined H & H's championship bid. The games usually go only five innings. L & L, Arrowettes and Stanco finished at 4-3. Three runs were scored by L & L in the second inning for a 3-0 lead. Doylene Cesspooch, Tammy Asay and Becky Lloyd scored counters in the second inning. Shellie' Chivers singled with two outs in the bottom of the second inning. inn-ing. Mechell Atwood singled, but was forced out at second. Ruth Dunn was also forced out, but Teresa Smith was walked and scored on a single up the middle by Mel Bradford. Andy Critton Crit-ton drilled a shot, but it was right at an infielder for the third out. Both teams were blanked in the fourth inning, but the softball excitement excite-ment picked up in the fifth inning with H & H Bico providing the highlights. M. Critton singled and Atwood was walked. Dunn hit into a force out, but Smith doubled. However, Atwood was tagged out at home plate for the second out. Kim Drollinger dropped a shot in front of the centerfielder for a double and knocked in Dunn and Smith with a 3-3 tie with two outs. Bradford ripped a shot by the pitcher and advanced Drollinger to third base. The game was forced into extra innings when A. Critton popped up on the first pitch for the final out. Errors put Marlene Olsen and Doylene Cesspooch on the bases and Debbie Hoopes was walked to fill up the bases. However, Tammy Asay hit the ball to A. Critton, who won the race to third base for a force out to end the top of the sixth. H & H Bico went down in order in the bottom of the sixth inning and L & L was blanked in the 'top of the seventh. Fowler led off with a single in the bottom of the seventh for H & H, but the next three batters went down one, two, three. The excitement picked up in the eighth inning, but both teams couldn't take advantage and the game was forced into another inning. Melanie Sorensen was walked and Olsen got on base on a fielder's choice when Sorensen was forced out at second. Heather Butler singled and a ground out advanced the runners run-ners to second and third. Hoopes was walked to load up the bases, but once again A. Critton won the race to third for a force out. Smith led off with a single on a close play in the bottom of the eighth inning, but was forced out at second base. Drollinger got on base on a fielder's choice, but was stranded when the next two batters failed to gain hits. An error put LaJean Rasmussen on the base paths, but a freaky softball base hit, which consisted of the ball darting by the pitcher and bouncing over second base put two runners on the base paths. A single by Sorensen loaded up the bases. Rasmussen almost scored, but changed her mind as she returned to third. The next batter flied out for the third out. H & H Bico's Liebhardt led off with a single, but was tagged out going to second. Cherie Webb and M. Critton flew out. L & L was blanked in the top of the tenth and H & H also failed to score in the bottom of the tenth. The bath paths became dusty in the top of the 11th inning. Asay ripped a double, but Becky Lloyd struck out. Rasmussen singled, but Julie Tucker flied out. The inning ended when the next batter was tagged out running to first base. Drollinger motored to second base on an error in centerfield, but once again H & H bats failed to come through as the next two batters committed com-mitted outs. Finally a team hit the scoring jackpot when L & L scored two runs in the top of the 12th inning for a 5-3 lead. Sorensen led off with a single and then a crash took place between an outfielder and infielder, which put Sorensen at third and Butler at second se-cond with one out. ( , z f, i . - -a : wins trap- An error on a throw to first base on a ball hit by Cesspooch enabled Sorensen to score. Butler was tagged out at home plate for the second out. Hoopes got on base on an error and Cesspooch added run number five. Asay flied out for the third out. Liehardt dropped a single in front of an outfielder. Webb drilled a shot over the shortstop's head, but outfielder out-fielder Cesspooch stuck out her glove and caught the ball only a few inches from the ground for an out. Liebhardt was forced out at second, but S. Chivers got on base on a fielder's choice. Fowler was walked, but M. Critton flied out to Cesspoch to make the final score: 5 to 3 in favor of L & L. H & H Bico defeated Morning Star, Arrowettes, R & R, Deseret Federal and Shear Pleasure, but suffered losses to Stanco and L & L. H & H beat Shear Pleasure, 8-5.
