Show The Wound That Would Not Heal Breast cancer remains a mystery. mys-tery. Dr. Harold Dvorak is studying the non-malignant portion of tumors for clues to this disease which strikes nearly one in 12 women. Malignant tumors contain cancer can-cer and supporting tissues called stroma. A critical part of the stroma is fibrin a jelly-like material derived de-rived from circulating blood. The tumor uses this infrastructure to feed itself, get rid of wastes, and grow. It tricks the body into supporting sup-porting its needs. - Dvorak has found that many of the events associated with tumor growth resemble those of ordinary wound healing. 'The wound that will not heal" an old description of cancer may prove to be a quite literal description. Dvorak's basic idea is to cut the "lifeline" of the tumor and starve it to death. "This approaches quite different from any currently employed," em-ployed," he says. Dr. Dvorak's work is funded by the National Foundation for Cancer Can-cer Research of Bethesda, Maryland, Mary-land, a publicly-supported organization. organi-zation. This non-profit foundation was started to support the work of Nobel Prize winner Albert Szent-Gyorgyi, Szent-Gyorgyi, the discoverer of vitamin C and pioneer in cancer research. Bill Moulton, assistant foreman of the Dutch John Helitack, hosted a formal affair in his home for a gathering of family and friends. The guests of honor were his parents, Carl and Joanne Moulton of Albuquerque, Albu-querque, N.M. ' The guests arrived in gowns and suits of various styles and colors. When asked, "Why a formal affair?" Bill said, "Why wait for an excuse to step out of our hectic, everyday lives, drag out our best attire out of moth balls, enjoy the company of good friends and have a good time?"
