Canada, !., pi U ft''f t"t "I didn't know so many people lived liv-ed around here!", was a remark made by a visitor to Roosevelt during the Uintah Basin Industrial Convention Conven-tion (UBIC) Aug. 1-3. According to those in charge of this year's celebration, it was one of the most successful ever. They estimated a crowd of seven to eight thousand were on hand at times in the city park. UBIC events began with a queen contest and ended with a fireworks display Saturday night. There were parades, contests and booths of all sorts, live bands, displays, demonstrations and prize give aways. The children especially enjoyed en-joyed the' free swimming, BMX races, roving clowns and the animal Olympics. The theme "We Have Energy" was carried out in the parade and at many of the programs on the stage in the park. UBIC has evolved from its early beginning where, the show of farm and industrial machinery, crops, livestock and products were the center of attraction to a full blown community celebration. The energy theme tied into the economic roots of the area where farmers, ranchers and oil fields work together in compatible unison to provide pro-vide a living for the people. Some residents of Uintah County came away with prizes and honors from UBIC. In the tiny tot show: Garrett Gar-rett D. Smuin, son of Curt and Tracie Smuin; Marissa Hacking, daughter of Mitch and Lisa Hacking and Joshua Horrocks, son of Brad and Susan Horrocks were among the four year old winners in the Tiny Tot Show.
