Show Brunsdale criticized Dear Editor At the State Democrat Convention, Conven-tion, Kenley Brunsdale said that Jim Hansen was "mean-spirited' because Hansen had said, "Whoever baptised Wayne Owens didn't hold him under long enough." Led by Peter Billings in convulsive laughter on stage, the convention broke up as Kenley said he didn't think it was funny. Kenley Brunsdale was quoting Jim Hansen out of context from the Weber County Republican Convention Conven-tion when Hansen referred to Wayne Owens' own quotes as he ran for Congress again in 1986. Owens referred to his first term in Congress and said he had now been 'converted' and that if elected, he would go back to Congress this time and be more conservative and represent Utah values. Far from being 'converted, Wayne has turned out to be not only the most liberal Congressmen in the 4 ten Western States, but one of the ! most liberal Congressmen in the en tire nation, having a voting record that equals the left side of the Massachusetts delegation. He obviously ob-viously feels more allegiance to his past service with the Kennedys than he does to his native state. Hansen was referring to what Owens had represented as his own 'political conversion,' saying that whoever was responsible for 'politically baptising Wayne had not held him under long enough, since the baptism had obviously not taken. The comment had absolutely nothing to do with religion, unless your politics is your religion. Ironically, Brunsdale then went on to accuse Hansen of having no sense of humor. From the reaction of the audience at the Democrat Convention, it would appear thai they saw what Kenley couldn't. Come on, Kenley, I know some are slower than others, but think a little harder, you'll catch on sooner... oi later. Alex Hurtado Ogden |
