Show Farmington City rejects Rock House conditional use permit By JOHN W.CANNON FARMINGTON - With the Mayor casting the deciding vote, the Farmington City Council voted 3-2 to deny a conditional use permit for the old Rock House Hotel. The decision overturned a previous decision by the planning commission to grant the permit. " The permit would have allowed Utah Advocates for Parents and Youth at Risk, a non-profit organization, to convert the rock hotel ho-tel into a home for runaway youth. Marda Dillree and Pat Achter voted for granting the permit while Hank Semadeni, Art Maxwell and Mayor Robert Arbuckle voted against it. Hank Semadeni felt that the decision deci-sion was a very stressful one. "We have been sat on by the County," he said. "I feel that I have an obligation to be selective about the businesses that come to Farmington. Farm-ington. Troubled youth need room to roam, they need elbow room, a place to goof off and let off steam. They don't need to be in a fish bowl," he said. The Mayor agreed saying, "This is not the quiet, unstressed place that troubled youth need. I have not seen the evidence that this will benefit the community. ' ' |
