Show Youth earns royalty crown Christopher Allen, 9, son of Loren and Sandy Allen of Bountiful, Boun-tiful, was chosen as second atten- dant in the mini-royalty of the Days of '47 youth parade to be held July 21, in Salt Lake City. Nearly 100 children ranging from five to 12 years old were judged on personality, communication skills, and most importantly their knowledge knowl-edge of the 24 of July and what it celebrates. Christopher told judges about his great-great -great -grandfather Levi Savage, who led a handcart company com-pany across the plains. He also told judges that most people couldn't afford af-ford wagons so they used handcarts. Christopher's personality might have been what won the judges over, though. When asked why he wanted to be in the royalty he answered, an-swered, ' Because my mom wanted me to." He won a trophy, banner and crown which he will wear in the parade. Christopher and the other members of the royalty will ride on an old-fashioned fire engine in the youth parade which will be held on Main street in Salt Lake City at 9 a.m. |
