Show Bountiful gymnasts place In national competition By G.B. HART bountiful-Two gymnasts from USA Gymnastics World in Bountiful placed in the National Gymnastics Competition held in Baltimore Md. . Casey Bryan, 14, placed seventh in the U.S. in the all-around competition, com-petition, winning him a spot on the national gymnastics team. The national team consists of the gymnasts who won the top ten honors in this competition. Bryan took second place in the high bar and fourth in the parallel bars. According to his coach Chris Leech, Bryan did not do as well as he might have because he was still recovering from an injury. ' ' Casey 's best events are the vault and the floor exercise," said Leech. "Casey suffered a stress fracture in his ankle. He couldn't do his best tricks because he's only been out of his cast for three weeks, 1, -I, j and he's still sore. We're happy he did so well." Bryan left Maryland for Minneapolis, Min-neapolis, Minn., where he competed in the Olympic Festival. After a brief stop home, he left to compete in the Junior Pan American Games. "The U.S. has been using him for three weeks in a row. It's quite a schedule for a 14-year-old," said ; Leech. Bryan is ranked number one in the nation in the 14 and under category. Rob Kjar came home with 13th place in the overall competition. Leech, also Kjar's coach, explained ! that he missed making the national team by seven-tenths of a point. Kjar placed second in the pommel horse competition. USA Gymnastics World gymnasts gym-nasts Matt Haymas and Reid Holbrook also competed in the national competition. |
