Show PATRIOTISM CONT. FROM A-U Enough drops of water fill a bucket, wear away a rock and enough people peo-ple feeling proud enough to participate par-ticipate (John Q. and Jane Citizens) coupled with national legislators' serious efforts to reduce spending, can "pincermove" the amount of debt downward, thus, greatly saving interest, which is eroding everyone's every-one's pocket money. Why not say "Happy Birthday, USA,' ' every month-put your money where your patriotism is? Donations may be sent to: Bureau Bu-reau of the Public Debt, Department G, Washington, D.C 20239-0601. Ruth Mullen Deerfield Beach, Fla. Patriotism is lacking Dear Editor: Every hurricane, tornado, earthquake earth-quake or other catastrophe finds Americans pitching in, with food, clothing, money, equipment, "person power (men and women)," whether the disaster be local, national or international. Well, with the U.S. birthday, just celebrated, why don't we, each and every one of us, pitch in, rather painlessly, and meet our national debt emergency? "Love this great country, warts and all," enough to pledge (allegiance to the debt reduction reduc-tion fund),$10 a month less than the price of a good concert, or a few packs of cigarettes a week, or a big pizza or a few video rentals, etc. We don't grumble over shelling out cash for these or other treats, and in many cases, don't even feel the outflow, it is such a kind of habit-almost habit-almost automatic spending, in our way of life. "A drop in the bucket," you say? See Patriotism A-9 |
