Show Youth stable after bicycle accident By EDEN BODILY BOUNTIFUL An 8-year-old boy was airlifted to Primary Children's Hospital Friday after colliding with a car on his bicycle. The boy apparently went through a stop sign and into the path of an oncoming car at 2900 South and 300 West in Bountiful, Deputy Paramedic Dan Yearn an said. He said the boy "bounced off the windshield and then the back window," breaking his femur. He was transported to nearby Boulton Elementary, where Life Flight took him directly to surgery. FROM A-1 The driver of the vehicle, Richard Sid do way, of Bountiful, assisted with emergency care until paramedics arrived. Yeaman said Siddoway "went to the child, provided pro-vided traction (for the broken leg), and kept him from moving and further fur-ther injuring himself. ' Siddoway and his wife were the only passengers in the car and were not injured. Their vehicle, a brand new Toyota Celica, sustained about $1,500 in damage, including the windows and damage to the front fender. No citations were given pending further investigation, Yeaman said. He said that the vehicle had the right of way. Yeaman emphasized that all graffic laws pertain to bicycles as well as vehicles. 'Bicyclists need to obey all traffic rules," he said. "They need to be more cautious than anybody else on the road because they aren't as easily seen." |
