Show Hamblin attends National Leadership Conference Bait Hamblin has just recently returned re-turned from attending the 1989 postgraduate National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. He was one of 350 student around the country chosen for this honor- The scholars were selected for this honor based on demonstrated academic . achievement, achiev-ement, leadership and citizenship - The Utah delegation met Senator Orrin Hatch and Rep. James V. Hansen in their respective offices and also had the opportunity to listen to Rep. Hansen debate a bill on the floor of the House.1 ? f They participated in a Mock Congress where they debated, lobbied lob-bied and voted on a proposed National Service Legislation, "Should it be mandatory , that all graduating seniors serve two years in the armed services." Bart was accompanied to the conference by a cousin, Mario Dur-rant, Dur-rant, who was also nominated for this honor. Bart is the son of Leroy and Susan Hamblin of Kaysville; and Mario is the son of Don and Peggy Durrani of Wellsville. Both boys are high honor graduates of their respective high schools and are listed in "Who's Who in American High Schools." Both felt this time spent in Washington was very worthwhile and commented that the best part of the week was meeting other students from throughout the country. 1 "Klilai:ill I ' I 1 i ! i If. Back-packs, sandals and high-top shoes complete the outf its of Steve Jarman, Brian Gartock and Rick Lifferth. Over 2,200 teachers will face students similarly attired this year. Perhaps the teachers will learn a lesson from the students and dress as fashionably. |
