Track The University of Utah track team will get into action this weekend week-end when they travel to Tempe, Arizona for a dual meet with Arizona Ari-zona State. The track meet scheduled sched-uled for last weekend in Ogden was snowed out and will probably not be rescheduled. Baseball Goalie John Ajer dives on ground to make a brilliant stop in a recent contest. The soccer A team will play Hollandia A, and the B team faces Weber St this Saturday afternoon on Cummings Field The University of Utah baseball team opens Western Athletic Conference Con-ference play with three games with BYU on Friday and Saturday. There will be a single game at Derks Field on Friday at 2 p.m. On Saturday action will move to Provo for a doubleheader. The first game of the doubleheader will be at 1 p.m. Utah currently has a 6-5 record. Tennis The tennis team will get a taste of competition in the Pacific Northwest North-west as they travel to Seattle for three matches this week. They will meet the University of Seattle on Thursday, the University of Washington Wash-ington on Friday and the Seattle Tennis Club on Saturday. The first WAC match for the tennis team will be April 19 in Salt Lake against BYU. Scott Bennion, Mike Wald-ram Wald-ram and Laury Hammel will lead the Utes. Cycling The Intercollegiate cycling season sea-son begins this Saturday with a 25-mile 25-mile time trial at Corrinne, Utah. Other events this year will include in-clude a 30-mile roadrace at Sugar House Park on April 27, track races at BYU on May 11, and a 30-mile roadrace at BYU on May 18. Competition will be divided into A and B classes. Class A will consist con-sist of professional specification bicycles with sew-up tires. Class B cycles must have standard tube-type tube-type tires. Anyone interested in entering any competition should contact John Scoville at 466-4561. Awards Banquet The Athletic Awards banquet for winter sports will be held Thursday Thurs-day April 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Chuckarama restaurant (7th E. and 4th So.). Awards will be given for gymnastics, wrestling, basketball, swimming and skiing. I-M Schedule The intramural swim meet will be held Thursday, 4:30 p.m., in the gym swimming pool. Favorites in the meet will be the Amors and Phi Sigma Kappa, first and second place finishers last year. The pool will be open today and tomorrow from 4 to 6 p.m. for all swimmers signed up for the meet. If the weather permits, softball games will start Wednesday. Managers Man-agers should pick up the softball schedule along with the tennis pairings pair-ings either today or tomorrow. Lacrosse The lacrosse team has been given Cummings Field, so practices will be moved to that location beginning Wednesday. The field is located north of the fieldhouse, and practices prac-tices will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and 10:30 a.m. Saturday. A full-field full-field scrimmage is planned for Saturday. |
