Show It's Music Month Parade of Music Friday Springville's Federated Music Club will feature D. Clifford R. Barnes, associate professor of music at BYU, in concert Friday in the art building beginning be-ginning at 8 p.m. The concert will be part of the 1969 Parade of American Music in observance of February Febru-ary being observed a American Music Month nationally. The public is invited. There is no charge. The evening's program will include three general groups of original folk music, Indian, Negro, Ne-gro, and cowboy .Dr Barnes will illustrate the primitive music and songs and then will offer selections to show how present-day composers have developed de-veloped these themes for thj modern musical listeners. He will be accompanied by Thomas Biesinger, BYU graduate student. stu-dent. The finale will be a patriotic pa-triotic number sung by the Thirteenth Ward Choir directed by Mr Biesinger accompanied by Colleen Money. A native of Utah, Dr. Barnes spent most of his early years in California where he later received higher degrees from the University of Southern California. Cal-ifornia. He has also attended The purpose of the Parade of American Music is to support sup-port United States composers, provide extensive hearings for their works, and encourage their use by performing artists and students and to widen public pub-lic appreciation and knowledge of American repertory and musical mu-sical tradition, according to Mis. Max Sumsion, president cf the sponsoring organization. Co-chairman of the Parade are Mrs. Thomas Biesinger and Mrs. Lawrence Lynn. Publicity is being arranged by Mrs. Wayne Smith, Mrs. LaMar Clark, Miss Hannah Rowland, Miss Carma Lynn, Mrs. D. La-Rell La-Rell Johnson, and John Lind-gren; Lind-gren; seating, Mrs. J Lewis Felix; presentation of colors, Mrs Kent Palfreyman. The governing board of the Museum of Art with G. Bruce Braithwaite, directo-r, has wcrked closely with the Music Club members assisting tnem with various aspects of the coming program, Mrs. Biesinger Biesing-er stated. The All-Utah Art Show is currently on display at the art building and those attending the Parade are also invited to enjoy the art exhibit Dr. Clifford R. Barnes the National Conservatory of Music, Paris, France. He has filled teaching asignrr.ents at Hughes Junior High School, Long Beach, California; Lycc J e a n-Girauseux, Chateaureux, Fiance, USC, UCLA, Boston, University, and presently at BYU where he is a coordinator of musicology. |
