Show Scoutmaster M. Fred Erickson earns coveted Silver Beaver . v - ? I- I I '" 1 'T..f- 1 f ' v . V ! Scoutmaster M. Fred Erickson Erick-son who has done an outstanding outstand-ing job with Scout troops as their leader in the Twelfth Ward for many years, was one of 17 top ranking scouters who received the coveted Silver Beaver Award at the Utah National Na-tional Parks Councils annual Fellowship Banquet Thursday night at the Wilkinson Center, BYU campus. More than 800 scouters and their partners attended at-tended the event. The award is the highest given by the council. coun-cil. The awards were presented by Mr .and Mrs. Duane A. Frandsen, Price; Council President Presi-dent and Mrs. Marden D. Pearson, Pear-son, Richfield; and Council Treasurer and Mrs. Victor J. Bird, Provo. Highlight of the meeting was the showing of a new color strip on Camp Maple Dell in Payson Canyon prepared by the Provo Peak District. This film consists of 70 frames showing boys in scouting activities at Maple Dell, with background music and narration. Sidney Sandberg, Provo, gave the Eagle Scout report which he gave to Governor Calvin RamDton earlier this vear. M. Fred Erickson has outstanding out-standing service record with Boy Scouts as their leader. siince 1954 when he became Cubmaster of Pack 61. He served serv-ed five years as Cubmaster in three different packs 61, 63, and 129. For the past seven years he has served as Scoutmater of Troop 129 (Twelfth Ward) and is still serving in this position. Mr. Erickson has devoted his I life to the Scouting program During this time he has also I (Cont. on back page, col. 6) Fred Ericbon receives coveted Silver Beaver (Continued from Page One) served in other positions m Scouting including two years as assistant chairman of leadership leader-ship training; two years as assistant as-sistant district commissioner m charge of Cubscout leaders Roundtables, three years as assistant as-sistant District Commissioner in charge of Boy Scout leaders Roundtables in which position he is still serving. He received his Scouters Key in 1959 and has served as instructor in-structor for numerous training courses both in Cubbing and Scouting. Fred's troop is a camping troop and Scouts from Troop 129 can always be found at Council Camps and District Camporees and participating in civic service projects. Mr. Erickson has six sons who have participated with him in the Cubbing and Scouting programs. In 1964 he and his family attended the Scout training course at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. |
