Show National attendance record for wrestling meet sought at BYU Brigham Young University athletes and teams claim some national records based on performance per-formance and success but the many spectators who gather to be entertained by the Cougar athletes have not gained national na-tional recognition to date. On Jan. 14, 1967, the BYU Athletic Department is promoting promo-ting an opportunity for spectators spec-tators to set a national at- tendance record. At 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 14, the BYU wrestling team will host the UCLA Bruins Bru-ins in an intercollegiate dual wrestling match. An all-out effort ef-fort is being made to have 9,-000 9,-000 spectators attend the match which will be held on the main playing floor of the George Albert Smith Field-house. Field-house. The record is currently 8,500 which is held by Oklahoma State University, a school which plans on an average of 8,000 spectators per match. Coach Fred Davis coached the BYU wrestling team to the Western Athletic Conference championship in 1966 and has continued his winning ways in the first two outings this season. sea-son. With a sophomore dominated team the Cougars literally walked away with their second trophy in two years in the Arizona Ar-izona Invitational then returned home and scored a 20-11 win over the University of Arizona.
