Mrs. Clara Sumsion was hostess. A member of the BYU movie studio production staff, Mrs. Pearson has traveled extensively extensive-ly in Europe; also in Russia where she was touring at the time of President Kennedy's assassination, and in Africa, before going to Israel. She joined the Israel kibbutz and spent three months as a member working and studying Hebrew. The kibbutz to which she belonged, had some 600 members who considered themselves them-selves to be borthers and sisters. sis-ters. When Israel was made a state in 1948, the kibbutz was formed as a means of protection protec-tion and to reclaim the land. The people in the kibbutz work for their food and clothing, studying a half day, working the other half. Mrs. Pearson was one of 60 youths from the United States to exeprience the kibbutz form of living and all were Jews except ex-cept herself and one other. She said Israel impressed her as being strong for freedom free-dom equality, but the people are very socialistic and many are athiests. Mrs. Pearson climaxed her presentation with a song in Hebrew. The speaker was introduced by Mrs. Manila Brown who with Mrs. Melva Smith arranged arrang-ed the program. President Merle Schreiner conducted and announced the next meeting to be held Jan. 19, at the home of Mrs. Lela Packard. The program was preceded by a nicely arranged lunch |
