Show BYU will add 4000 seats to new football stadium by foil Brigham Young University's new stadium will receive a new addition to the east stands which will add 4,080 seats and bring the permanent seating in the stadium to 30,892. With temporary bleachers, the seating seat-ing capacity will be in the neighborhood of 35,000. The announcement came by President Ernest Wilkinson at a memorial dinner on campus honoring the eight BYU alumni alum-ni killed in an airplane accident acci-dent Nov. 27, as they were going to the WAC championship champion-ship game which the Y won. Eighteen new rows of seats will be added to the top of the east stands, bringing them to the same height as the west stands. The work is scheduled to be completed in time for next football season. A record crowd of more than 33,000 was on hand for the inaugural game with New Mexico in 1964. The Cougars averaged 19,124 fans for five games in their first year in the new structure, and last season the average climbed to 23,094 fans per game. This was the largest increase in attendance attend-ance in the Western Athletic Conference. |
