Show More spent on automobiles than on food Food purchases accounted for 26.2 percent of all retail spending in Utah during 1963. Groceries to be consumed at home took 21.1 percent while meals and snacks eaten out amounted to 5.1 percent. Automobiles and trucks plus the fuel and accessories needed to keep them running took 27.8 percent of the State's retail dollar in the same year. For every dollar spent in the purchase of men's and boys' clothing during 1963 in UtiGQ $1.74 was spent on womei and girls' apparel.
