Show Hunting seasons getting in full swing now The big date for most Utah sportsmen is October 23, when the general deer season gets underway. However, Utah scat-tergunners scat-tergunners have several dates to draw a bead on. Grouse and partridge hunts began Sept. 25. The sage grousers were finished the next day. Ruffed and blue grouse men will continue hunting until October 22, the day before the deer hunt. Hungarian and chuk-ar chuk-ar hunts end December 31. Pheasant and quail gunners go afield November 6. The pheasant hunt varies from three to nine days depending on location. The quail season runs concurrent with the pheasant season in most counties, coun-ties, but is extended to Nov. 30 in Box Elder, Cache, Davis, Juab, Morgan, Rich, Salt Lake, Sanpete, Summit, Tooele, Utah, Wasatch and Weber. The wild turkey hunt will draw men into the hills from October 9 to October 17. Special Spec-ial $3 permits are required to hunt turkey. Waterfowl hunters get a break this year with an early morning opening on October 9. Their prey will again be safe after January 6. Dove hunters in the southern counties finish their hunt Sept. 30 at sunset. The northern counties closed Sept. 15.
