The champions were bolstered bol-stered by the playing of six youngsters who won the Little League World Championship two years ago. The Springville game with Central Marin overshowed the championship game in real interest, although the 6-5 loss dropped the Springville nine out of further competition. Springville drew first blood in the fourth when Don Corn's d smashed a. single into right field and scored on Steve Hill's hit deep in left field. The Springville All-Stars went to pieces in the fourth and the Californians scored five runs on three hits and three Springville errors. Springville really came to Campbell-Moreland, Calif,, won the regional Pony League title here 15-2 over their neighboring neigh-boring California team, Central Cen-tral Marin, in tihe finals last Thursday evening. The win gave them a berth this week in the district finals in San Pedro, Calif. The winners won every game in the Springville tournament. Following the games first, second, third -and fourth place trophies were awarded to the teams; Springville was given the trophy for sportsmanship; and a beautiful trophy for top batting honors went to Vaughn Takaha, shortstop for the champions with a .538 average for the tournament. . Initialed bats were also presented pre-sented by the two finalist teams, C a m p b e 1 1-Moreland, and Central Marin, to Wave Miguel for his work as tournament tourn-ament director. Springville has already filed an application for the tourney next year and Jordan said it would get his vote if presented to the Regional Re-gional Board. In winning the title, Campbell-Moreland tallied once in the first inning, .came up with an explosive 6-run rally in the second on four hits and two errors plus a walk. Seven runs were tallied in the fourth on three hits, two walks and four errors ,by the losers. They added ad-ded one each in the fifth and seventh. The game was called with a 13 point margin. Cen- |
