Show Club members hear fine book review The horrors and sacrifices of World War II, were brought to mind by Helen Anderson in a review of the book, "The Boy Next Door," at the Ladies Literary Club meeting Thursday Thurs-day evening of last week. Mrs. Clara Sumsion was hostess. The story, written by Sidney Stewart, is of a young man born in Sanpete County, a gifted gift-ed youth, who struggled through high school and college, col-lege, becoming a teacher and later going into the service. The writer served with him in the Philippines and his book presenting pre-senting life in a Japanese prison pris-on camp, discussing the moral and physical strength exhibited exhibit-ed by the young Utahn, and his traggic death, made an impressive im-pressive program. Preceding the program, the hostess served a delicious tray lunch, assisted by her sisters, Maria and Zina Johnson, to seventeen members and guests. Marine Private Jefferson K. Miner, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson K. Miner of 839 So. Second East, Springville, recently re-cently returned from an 11-month 11-month tour of duty with the Third Marine Division in Okinawa. Ok-inawa. The division is the the United Unit-ed States' combat-ready amphibious am-phibious warfare force in the Far East. George C. (Chris) Wright has returned to his school work at New Mexico Military Institute, Roswell, N. M., after a holiday visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Wright and family; his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Harold Christen-sen Christen-sen and other relatives and friends. He made the trip bv plane. DeMar Danielson, son of Mr and Mrs. Axel Danielson has returned from an enjoyable visit with his brother, Gene and family at Chile, Arizona. His trip also included stops in Colorado, Col-orado, New Mexico, Texas and Old Mexico. |
