Show New facilities slated Some good things are on the horizon for Cedar City sports and recreation fans. Cedar City recently entered into an agreement with the Iron County School District to continue with development develop-ment of a ballpark complex just east of Cedar High School. There are four scheduled stages of development that will occur over the next four years. Stage One. (finished by August 31, 1982) ' A. Prepare east practice football fields for planting. plan-ting. B, , Plant east practice football fields. CY Construct Pony League-slow pitch soft- ball field on largest school district field. Fencing will be included. D. . Cut-out infields and kill grass for foul lines for three T-ball playing fields. E. : Outlet and hook-up water line to provide water for Pony Leage-softball Leage-softball field. Stage Two. (finished by August 31, 1983) A. Construct score booths and dugouts for T-ball and Pony League fields. B. Burn lines for practice football fields. Stage Three, (finished by August 31, 1984) A. Fence T-ball baseball fields. B. Construct restrooms. Stage Four, (finished by August 31, 1985) A. Put lights on Pony League-softball field. B. Construct concession stand. C. Future planning. In additon to being heavily involved with formulating this new ballpark development proposal, the Cedar City Recreation Committee, under direction of City Recreation Director Steve Hodson, convened last week and met several other decisions. Items acted upon by the recreation committee included Approving the completion of four tennis courts next to Cedar Junior High School, along with deciding to construct two courts at the Canyon Park. Neither set of courts w ill be lighted because of cost, according to Hod-son. Hod-son. Deciding against compiling a traveling gymnastics . team to compete in AAU competition. com-petition. Again expense was the deciding factor, according to Hodson. The City will continue to offer gymnastics classes to interested residents. Lowering the, playing age for T-ball competitors com-petitors from eight to seven. This will allow more participation and many older kids will probably be playing Little League because an additional league is expected to be added next year. |
