The 15 member commission met with the Utah Congressional delegation, Utah Governor Scott Matheson and Nevada Senator Pa,ul Laxalt. Utah Senator Qrrin Hatch said that he was impressed : with the panel and that he thought they really knew the problems of the MX. 'The Commission seems to be well aware of the problems, specifically those with impact im-pact on Utah and Nevada', said Hatch. 'There has to be an open end approach to these problems, In advance, or the MX should not be in Utah, and I think the Commission Com-mission is sympathetic to that.' The Commission meeting behind closed doors at the Pentagon, told Hatch they have reviewed all the problems, prob-lems, but have had time to only solve about half of them so far. 'I'm told the rest will be solved soon, so we can get a real handle on what they propose concerning con-cerning Utah and Nevada.' Hatch added. The Utah Republican said the Commission told him it is looking at alternatives. 'I hope the Commission will go to Utah for an on site visit to hear, first hand, what the people living in the area have to say about the impact of MX on ike state.' Hatch said, it is premature prema-ture to say he will abide by the Commission's recommendations, recom-mendations, whatever the decision is. 'Our national security needs must be met, but at the same time we must meet the needs of our people in the state. I've asked the Commission to meet once or twice more with the Utah delegation tj-fore tj-fore a decision is solid.' A final decision by the Commission is expected this June. |
