Show Just Dotvocn You And Ih How many of you have written a letter to your legislators leg-islators about the closing of the Milford Weatherstation? Ah-a-a-ah! Don't fib the old Redhead has been checking up on you, and ! either the UJS. Postal Ser- : vice has stooped to a new j i low ... or you haven't been writing, because Sen. Garn, Sen. Hatch and Cong. Marriott Mar-riott just haven't got that many letters. ; j In fact they've only re- I ceived a few. ;; i - o - i Maybe you don't under- j stand what is at stake . . . : or maybe you look at the $43,000 cost of operating the ! Milford Station as a big saving. Baloney! You won't save a dime In salaries, because both employees will be trans -ferred to some big city, and probably get a raise to boot. The only expense left is maybe may-be three-four thousand dollars dol-lars for heat, lights, phone and the few materials and i supplies used. - 0 -What you lose is the local weather information, that is important not only to private and commercial flights, but to ranchers, farmers and other private citizens. What really needs to be done is to , make the Milford Station a 24 hour operation. But of course the federal agencies always come up with a proposal to make the rich richer and the poor poorer. Remember the re -organization of BLM. By consolidating all offices of-fices under one roof in Cedar City, they were supposed to be more efficient and be able I to cut the massive staff. ' 1 - 0 - , But anyone who drives by I the huge new BLM offices in j 1 Cedar City knows whatafal- ; lacy that was. They've not ! ! only got employees hanging ! from the rafters, but over flowed into the federal building build-ing on 100 East, District offices in Kanab, St. George and elsewhere are also burgeoning bur-geoning with employees. -flit takes only a minute to write a letter. Just a simple paragraph stating you are op -I posed to the closure. Write Sen. Garn and Sen. Hatch at i Box 99, Cedar City, 84720 or Rep. Marriott at Box 667, Cedar City 84720. 0 - r Once again the Milford j Valley Memorial Hospital annual meeting will have to butt heads with another im -portant meeting. It's not their fault their by-laws set the meeting on Feb. 21 each year. This year, they bowed to demands from the Old -Timers, who scheduled sche-duled their annual visitation and retirement party for the same night, along with the City Council meeting.MVMH changed to Wednesday, Feb. 22, only to have the school board continue their meeting of Feb. 1 to the same night. Nothing could be worse, since people from both Milford Mil-ford and Minersville will want to attend both meetings. - 0 - A meeting tonight, Feb. 9, 4:30-5:30 p.m. wlllcoverthe subject of the school board meeting, for those who go to Milford High School. Possible Pos-sible other meetings lnMln-ersville lnMln-ersville and Beaver will give the board enough imput to make the right decision on what to do about Minersville Elementary and MHS. (See story). It really is a board decision, deci-sion, and should be made on the basis of what is best for the district students all of them and how this can i be accomplished most economically. econ-omically. The only legitimate reason for involving the citizens is to present them with the cold hard facts not only for 1978-79 but for as far in future as can reasonably be predicted. Without the promised prom-ised growth factor, this would be quite simple. Add geothermal, alunite and molybdenum and the future fu-ture is anybody's best guess. We hope that Beaver County-ites County-ites will calmly and rationally rational-ly attend these meetings and listen to the alternatives and consider not just next year, but the future of Beaver County students. Then give the School Board your blessing and Instruct them to do the right thing for the district students. - 0 - We're running short of "Beautiful people". We've had lots of names submitted, but only have a very few . stories left. We know there must be more beautiful people peo-ple In Mlnersville and Beaver, as well as Milford, so get on the ball and get them In to us. |
