Show lilo Inmm raps 88 ElnorsvillG BicBntosiiifel lieiii to an announcement that brught a spontaneous approval ap-proval of the crowd, Mike Gillins, emcee, announced L11a Truman as the winner oi the Bicentennial Queen Pageant. Jill Albrecht, daughter of r- and Mrs. Milton Albrecht, was first runnerup d Lacy Marchall, daughter 01 Mr. and Mrs. Lee Marshall was second runnerup. run-nerup. The event, Minersville's Miners-ville's first of the bicentennial bicenten-nial year, was held Saturday evening in the Minersville LDS Church Cultural Hall. Other queen candidates were Beverly Craw, Jolyn Dotson, Wendy Gillins, Kayleen Carter, Lisa Eyre, Peggy Hanley, and Jody Eyre. Judges for the event were Peggy Roundy, LoisMeachan and Jim and Judy Breckline all of Richfield. The program was emceed by Mike Gillins. Each girl was introduced as they came on stage dressed in pant suits.. The group then sang "I Love America," accompanied accom-panied on the piano by Debbie Hollingshead. Other parts of the program were a song sung by Beaver's Centennial Queen, Pam Wright. She sang "Sing" by the -Carpenters, accompanied accom-panied by Annette Smith; a song by Annette Van Tassell, she is Milford's Centennial Queen. Linda Sullivan, Kim Brox and Michelle Fisher sang, "I Write the Songs". Kim accompanied them on the guitar. The candidates then came on stage wearing formal dresses. The emcee asked each girl a question to answer in their own words, the judges then left the room to decide on which girl was to reign. While they were gone, Kim Brox sang two songs accompanying herself on the guitar. The queen was crowned by Sherline Beddingfield of Cedar City, who wasMiners-ville's wasMiners-ville's Centennial queen in 1959. The attendants were crowned by Merle Gillins and Janiele Dalton. The queen was given abouquetof roses; each attendant a rose and two carnations. Each girl that participated was given a red rose bud. Banana slush and cookies were served to the crowd afterwards. It was a very enjoyable evening. I want to take this opportunity to thank the chairwomen, Merle Gillins, Janiele Dalton and Edith Marshall, for the time they spent arrangingthe program, pro-gram, also for those who made the cookies and slush. Last of all a 'thank you' to those who came from Richfield to be the judges. The next event is the Minersville Birthday program pro-gram to be held May 18th. A talent show and dance with refreshments will be the evenings entertainment. Bernice Gillins is the chairwoman chair-woman for this. |
