During the Big Sky wrestling championship on Feb. 25, Idaho Sate University beat Weber by a quarter of a point. Weber was favored to win the championship because they were the defending Champs and they had a strong second half of the season. Conference champs at Weber were Dave Lundskog, Jay Win ward (167 pounds) and Ryan Western (190 pounds). Second place finishers were Kerri Norman (118 pounds) and Gary Boden (177 pounds). Consolation champs were Brian Ricks (126 pounds), Dave s ? . l f J ; ' till' " i .vf''- k. - III " l . J P Signpost photoBob George Peterson (158 pounds) and Cal Robinson (heavyweight). Coach John Webb said, "Overall this was the best year ever at WSC. We had the highest finish ever in the inter-mountain west with a third-place finish in the M1WA." In the last four years there have been a total of six points that separated the first and second-place teams in the Big Sky. "We've had our share of wins and our share of close losses." Webb is very optimistic about next year. The squad is loosing only two seniors, and returning will be "Tiny" Scriven and Dave Lundskog, both NCAA All-Americans. Also returning are five defending Big Sky champions and a host of lettermen and new recruits. |
