The race is only seven laps around the track, but each lap has four 36-inch high barriers and a water jump for a total of 35 barrier jumps. This means that runners have to concentrate on running, hurdling, jumping, and trying to stay out of the way of possibly 15 other runners who started at the same time. Gerber's personal best so far in this event is 8:24.72, which is the 12th best time ever by an American athlete. , x f ' 1 4 Signpost photoLaurie Call Dave Griffin competes at the try meet held at Wolfcreek NCAA District Seven Cross Coun- Eden, Utah. fcj "I beat President Rodney H. Printing has destroyed education . . . The essence of education is the education of the body . . . What I admire in the order to which you belong is that they do Hue in the air; that they excel in athletic sports; that they can only speak one language; and that they never read. This is not a complete education, but it is the highest education since the Greek. Benjamin Disraeli 1804-1881 i: |
