Show William T. Morris Honored On 81st Birthday Anniversary Honored at his home last Sunday afternoon was William T. Morris Sr., the occasion being his 81st birthday anniversary. Many relatives rela-tives and friends called during the afternoon and early evening with gifts and good wishes. Born in Dukinfield, England, May 17, 1861, he is a son of William Wil-liam and Sarah Durham Morris. The family came to America in 1862, when he was less than a year old. They settled at Paro wan, then one of the southern outposts of the Utah territory, where he grew up and gained vast education in the school of experience. experi-ence. He has been active since boyhood in church organizations, serving in the Sunday schools, M. I. A. and other organizations of both ward and stake. Talented Tal-ented in music he was chorister for many years, and also a leader in community, social and civic activities, ac-tivities, holding various civic positions. posi-tions. March 24, 1882 he was married in the St. George Temple to Olena C. Mortensen, who died in 1922, while they were here as Temple workers from the Parowan stake. After her death he married Wil-helmina Wil-helmina Sullivan, and following her death in 1926 was married to Eliza M. Robinson of Parowan in 1928. They continued to do Temple work until he was stricken with heart ailment more than a year ago. His health is now improved and he devotes his time to woodcrafts wood-crafts and gardening, making many useful and beautiful items from native woods. One of his intricately in-tricately patterned inlaid tables attracts much attention in the McQuarrie Memorial hall, where he presented it as a gift. He has six living children, 36 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. |
