Show Floyd A. Jones' Mother, From Ohio, Yisits Leeds CCC Camp Recently Mrs. Floyd Jones of Lima, Ohio, is the only mother of record who has made the long journey to Utah's Dixieland for the sole purpose pur-pose of visiting with a . son in a CCC camp. Floyd A. Jones, a member of the Leeds camp had this unusual pleasure this past week. After being away from home for nearly a year, Mrs. Jones was not able to quickly recognize her own son and remarked to camp officials: "He left home a boy and now I see before me a son who has gained materially in heigth, weight and has the appearance of a young man. It is remarkable what the good food, regular hours of rest, ample outdoor recreation and work have accomplished. I am most agreeably surprised at the beautiful location of this camp, surrounded by these mountains moun-tains that are so high. To those of us who live in Ohio, it is hard to believe that these great masses of rock have been here for such a long time. One of the most interesting things about this wonderful camp that will impress any mother is the remarkable order in which everything is kept and the cleanliness clean-liness that prevails everywhere. As a mother, it is hard for me to believe that CCC boys, like my own son, make the beds, sweep the floors, clean the windows win-dows .polish the stoves, operate a laundry, and do all the work of preparing and serving the fine meals which I had. I'm afraid that when Floyd comes home he will be giving me some very practical prac-tical lessons in housekeeping. It is my hope that Floyd will decide de-cide to remain in this camp for the full two-year period. I shall be glad to tell other Ohio mothers of the very fine manner in which our boys are working and preparing pre-paring themselves for a place in the world". Company Commander Charles C. Backes, Educationl Advisor Anton An-ton J. Gleason and Dr. Morris Friedman, camp surgeon were hosts to Mrs. Jones during her visit. She saw other Ohio boys at the Hurricane camp, was taken on a tour of the Bridge Mountain Moun-tain camp and saw the beauties of Zion Canyon. |
