Show Funeral Services Held In Santa Clara For Harmon Gubler Sr. SANTA CLARA, Utah. Harmon Gubler Sr., pioneer of 1861, died Friday night at seven o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Reuben Ence at Ivins. His death followed several weeks of illness due to infirmities of old age. Funeral services were held Sunday Sun-day at the Santa Clara chapel at three p. m. The building was filled to capacity with relatives and friends from most of the surrounding sur-rounding communities of the county coun-ty and many from Nevada. The services were conducted by Bishop Henry Graff and were as follows: Musical numbers were a cornet duet by Jack and Shirley Reber, grandchildren; vocal solo, "My Faith In Thee", Mrs. Ernest Ern-est Tobler; vocal duet, "In the Garden," by Mrs. Clair Hafen and Mrs. Jimmie Sammons; quartet, "I Need Thee Every Hour", Ernest Ern-est Reber, Henry Graff, George Tobler and Lee Reber. Speakers were Theodore Graff, Mrs. John Gubler, Wallace Mathis, Adolph Hafen and Henry Graff. Harmon Gubler was born December De-cember 11, 1865 at Mullheim, Switzerland, son of John and Mary Ursula Gubler. At the age of four years, his parents, two sisters and one brother joined the L. D. S. church and came to America. Upon arriving in America, they spent some time in New York, then fame across the plains with other pioneers with ox teams and wagons. After a year at Ogden, they were called to come to Dixie to help settle this country. During his boyhood he helped freight produce pro-duce to Pioche and Silver Pveef, (Continued on page eight) Harmon Gubler Sr. (Continued from first page) acting as interpreter for his father fa-ther who had difficulty learning the English language. For 40 years he engaged in farming and livestock raising at his 160-acre ranch on the south side of the Pine Valley mountains. On December 11, 1879, he married mar-ried Selena Gubler, and they became be-came the parents of 11 children, all of whom are living today and were present at his funeral. In 1929, his wife died, and in 1931 was married again to Mrs. Marie Ray, who survives him. He is also survived by 59 grandchildren grand-children and 21 great grandchildren. grandchild-ren. Reber and Mrs. Reuben Ence of Ivins; Edmund Gubler, June Gubler, and Mrs. Selena Se-lena Hafen of Santa Clara; and Mrs. Art Furlong of Ventura, California. i . i |
