Show Over 518,000 Given Farmers Under County AAA Program Payments to farmers of Washington Wash-ington county who cooperated in the 1940 agricultural conservation program amounted to approximately approxi-mately $18,894.28 according to Wilford A. Schmutz, chairman of the county AAA committee. These payments were made to farmers for carrying out approved soil-building practices and for seeding within special crop acreage acre-age allotments. The amounts of money received for carrying out soil-building practices represented but a part of the actual cost of the practices, Mr. Schmutz said. He also pointed out that seeding seed-ing within acreage allotments not only aided in stabilizing markets by controlling and reducing surpluses sur-pluses but released land for. soil-conserving soil-conserving crops and allowed it to build back lost fertility. The total national conservation payment under the 1940 program amounted to approximately $462,-174,927. $462,-174,927. Of this amount Utah farmers received an estimated $911,432.94, which was allocated to the counties of the state as follows: Beaver, $9,911.23; Box Elder, $168,712.78; Cache, $82,-511.45; $82,-511.45; Carbon, $16,463.49; Daggett, Dag-gett, $2,829.00; Davis, $16,105.38; Duchesne, $49,099.71; Emery, $24,-345.73; $24,-345.73; Garfield, $17,322.75; Grand, $6,255.77; Iron, $31,084.83; Juab, $46,654.05; Kane, $7,490.32; Millard, Mil-lard, $49,170.13; Morgan, $12,173.-33; $12,173.-33; Piute, $6,871.26; Rich, $24, 360.85; Salt Lake, $37,330.18; San Juan, $16,477.39; Sanpete, $43,-868.20; $43,-868.20; Sevier, $22,137.48; Summit, Sum-mit, $19,078.89; Tooele, $18,195.-61; $18,195.-61; Uintah, $24,227.66; Utah, $74,-775.00; $74,-775.00; Wasatch, $17,992.64; Washington, Wash-ington, $18,894.28; Wayne, $7,-876.88; $7,-876.88; and Weber, $39,218.67.
