Show Men With Specialist Training Able To Join Coast Guard Men who specialist training, and who are able to meet the requirements require-ments for enlistment in the U. S. Coast Guard may now serve in the Coast Guard Reserve for a period of three years as petty officers. of-ficers. Electricians, machinists, radiomen, cooks, bakers and stenographers sten-ographers are in great demand to man the ships and stations of the Coast Guard, and men experienced in these trades may serve their country while furthering their vocational vo-cational training. In addition to having the necessary neces-sary physical, mental and moral qualifications for enlistment, young men desiring to enlist in the Reserve Re-serve as petty officers must prove themselves qualified as specialists in the particular line of duty in which they wish to serve. Those who have no specialist training, but who are anxious to learn while serving their country, may enlist as apprentice seamen. The age limits are from 17 to 35 years, and applicants must be unmarried, with no dependants. A minimum eighth grade education educa-tion is required of all applicants, as well as documentary proof of United States citizenship. After taking a rigid physical examination, examina-tion, an applicant's employment, school and character references are thoroughly investigated, and if he is considered good Coast Guard material, he may be enlisted en-listed immediately and transferred to active duty.
