Harris Kir leased Captain Grant Harris arrived home last Saturday evening, having hav-ing received his discharge from military service at Ft. MePherson, Georgia. Under present conditions this places him on reserve, subject sub-ject to call, if his services are needed. Having left here with the 115th Engineers, with whom he had trained a year before leaving, this gives him in reality four . years of military duty. Since : March of 1941, when his unit left St. George, he has served at several sev-eral locations and has had major responsibilities. He expresses appreciation ap-preciation for this experience, and i says he is happy to be back home , again with his family. rj Pa Pa Sends Parachute Home The parachute being displayed inside of the local J. C. Penney Pen-ney store was sent by Pfc. Shelby D. Frei, to his wife, who is residing re-siding in Santa Clara for the duration. The 'chute was used by paratroopers landing in Normandy on D-Day. It is about 24 yards in circumference and about 6 yards in diameter. Pfc. Frei entered the service two years ago this month and was stationed in Egypt one year before be-fore going to England shortly before be-fore the invasion. He is in a field hospital in France at present, pres-ent, where he is on a 12-hour shift with one other man, the two of them taking care of 46 patients. Slc D. Horsley Visit Here Home for a his first leave in three years and four months of sea service, Donald L. Horsley, Seaman First Class is spending the time in Veyo with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Horsley. He is on a 30-day delayed orders and will be assigned to another ship when he reports back the end of this month. He is wearing the defense ribbon covering the pre-Pearl pre-Pearl Harbor period; the American Ameri-can theatre and the Asiatic-Pacific operations. He is looking well and says his only problems is trying to get back into customs cus-toms of the U. S. after being out of the states for so many months. Pa Pa fa J. Burk Cnadbunn Visits Here Jean Burke Chadburn, Petty Officer Of-ficer First Class is home for his first visit in two and one-half years. He has spent the past two years overseas in the Pacific area, his recent location being the New Hebrides. From here he will report to Norfolk, Va., where he is assigned to Navy schooling. Accompanying him is his wife, the former Miss Jaunita Maupin of Hayward, Calif. The couple will be entertained while they are here. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James 'Chadburn. Pvt. Miles Nelson Visits Here Pvt. Miles E. Nelson arrived Sunday evening from Camp Fannin, Fan-nin, Texas, for a short visit with relatives. Mrs. Nelson, who has been living at Swapp's ranch with her parents, met him at Kanab. His mother, Mrs. John L. Whipple and husband came in from Ely, and his sister, Mrs. J. Norman Hunt and baby came from Salt Lake City to visit with him. The group went as far as Cedar City Wednesday noon to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Milne and family. Pvt. and Mrs. Nelson will go from there to Swapp's ranch to visit his wife's parents, and he will then return to Texas to receive his next assignment, Mr. and Mrs. Whipple and Mrs. Hunt and baby will return to Ely. |
