Show Grazing Service Now Given Status of 'Bureau' By C. F. DIERKING Regional Grazier The Grazing Service of the Department De-partment of the Interior has been given the status of an operating bureau of the department by order of Secretary Harold L. Ickes, it was announced today. During its ten-year existence, since the adoption adop-tion of the Taylor Grazing Act, it had been a division of the office of the Secretary. The Bureau of Grazing, of which Clarence L. Forsling is director, has jurisdiction over about 142,-000,000 142,-000,000 acres of public range lands in 10 western states. Within its 60 grazing districts 22,000 stockmen stock-men this year have obtained licenses li-censes or permits for nearly 11,-000,000 11,-000,000 head of livestock, a record number. Of the 142,000,000 acres, 18,171,400 acres are in the Arizona Ari-zona region. Within its four grazing graz-ing districts, 258,462 head of livestock live-stock are run by 612 operators. Of this number, the Arizona Strip district has 213 permitees grazing 137,695 head of livestock. |
