Show Dixie Forest Problems Discussed Here Water Users, Sportsmen And Stockmen Form Investigating Committee Responding to a call from the St. George Federation of Sportsmen, a good cross-saction of livestock producers, sportsmen, farmers, water users and business men assembled as-sembled Friday evening, July 28. at the St. George Elementary school building to organize for a greater protection of interests of the various groups in this area. Jos. J. Milne, president of the St. George Federation of Sportsmen, Sports-men, presided at the meeting and explained that it had been called resulting from a previous meeting held in Salt Lake City July 14. with the Utah board of big game control. He also spoke on the conditions of the range on Dixie National forest and gave some details as to the program contemplated contem-plated on this area, with respect to livestock and game. Additional Details Given J. Lawrence Wadsworth, president presi-dent of the Washington County Wildlife Federation added other details to the information given by Mr. Milne and told of a proposed pro-posed three-day survey to be conducted con-ducted in this area August 15 to 17, inclusive, for the purpose of studying range conditions and to determine if there are sections where additional doe deer removals re-movals will be recommended for cussions followed their talks, the coming hunting season. The purpose of this committee, it was explained was for the purpose pur-pose of harmonizing the interests of the entire group in the protection pro-tection of watersheds, livestock, and game in which all five groups are vitally concerned. Other business of the meeting concerned - the study of written testimonies of individuals from the various groups who have participated recently in the range surveys on the Dixie National forest. They also planned to be represented for the proposed range survey to be conducted this month and to keep in close contact con-tact with the various state departments de-partments with respect to these interests. |
