Show Editorially Speaking BRING ON THE SUNSHINE "Laugh, and the world laughs with you; cry and you cry alone." In that that little sentence someone has touched the heartstrings of truth and philosphy. Mirth is the key to the door of the House of Happiness. It tends to rout discontentment discontent-ment and despair; it stimulates the circulation and aids digestion di-gestion in fact it is a remedy for all sorts of ills. Today, as a rule, people tend to take themselves too seriously. seri-ously. It may be a number of things. But when such happens, self-pity enters into the game. Worry tends to magnify our trials. The more we brood over a thing the worse it appears to be. Much of the tragedy of the world would be avoided if people could laugh at themselves. When a person can see that the joke is on him and can laugh about it you may be sure that he has that indefinable "something" that insures for him life in abundance! Doctor Grayson, President Roosevelt's personal physician, has this advice to give to those who would keep physically fit: "System, diet, exescise, sleep, and a sense of humor." Abraham Lnicoln said, "Folks are usually about as happy they make up their minds to be." He kept a humorous book at hand in his desk, and when the troubles of office became too great he would read from the book and laugh. Laughter always al-ways saved the situation. It is said that his sense of humor saved his sanity. Kenyon Wade tells the following experience: "An irate man undertook the huge task of reciting my faults to me in no uncertain manner. When he had finished he looked at me sub-bornly, sub-bornly, expecting me to be in a rage. Instead I smiled at him and said: "I thank you, sir, for your category of my faults. The catalogue of them is a good one, but the list is not complete, com-plete, for there are so many faults you have left out." The man's sense of humor was touched and he broke out laughing. Far from loosing his esteem, I won him for a friend.' Incedents like this could readily be enumerated. They all boil down to one fact: Humor is cornpoundly valuable it helps us to get the other iellow's point of view; it is a cure for egotism; it takes the sting out of a sarcastic remark; it helps in putting people at ease and in winning their will; it makes us so much easier to live with. When the way gets hard and tough, a cheerful outlook will pull you out of the lowest depths. The door of hope and happiness and opportunity will not be closed to the optimist. Keep smiling!
