Show A ENTHUSIASTIC RESPONSE GREETS HACKERS OP SOFT BALL HERE IN ST. GEORGE Dan Heaton, president of the Business Men's sports association, reports that the suggestion of starting a soft ball league has been received with enthusiastic response by everyone contacted. Of special interest to ball fans was the offer of the Southern Utah Power company to assist in every way in the lighting of a field for night ball. All of the clubs and civic organizations org-anizations have been approached by representatives of the association associ-ation and they report that the response to the suggestion of a soft ball league was all that could be asked. One problem that seems to be confronting the group is where to locate the field. Some have backed back-ed the city ball park for the reason that it is city property, and because of the bleachers a-vailable. a-vailable. On the other hand a large group favor the city square and declare that because of its central location it will be much easier to interest people in the game. If people could see the game being played it naturally attracts them to watch, whereas it it is off in the ball park no one but the players will be interested and even they will soon drop out. Old timers remember the large crowds that used to turn out to the ball games on the public square and it is their hope that such crowds can be revived if the game is to be played there. An expression of the general public is desired by President Heaton and his committee since they are anxious to have the field located where it will prove the most popular. |
