Show CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS i FAVOR INSTITUTION 1 I" OF GOLF COURSE i ! ! Civic clubs of St. George have j gone on record as backing the ; establishment of a golf course here in St. George. They point lout that other neighboring towns j without near the advantages that St. George enjoys, have esablish-ed esablish-ed golf courses and are very en-thusiastic en-thusiastic over them. With the ideal weather that prevails in St. George, a golf club here should not only have a large local membership but should be able to have many outside out-side members and players who are not fortunate enough to enjoy en-joy our- climatic conditions. Cedar City is particularly anxious to see a course established here and has offered to back it in every way possible. It is believed that at least twenty golf enthusiasts , of that city would take out mem-! bership in such a club if it were , formed and a course established here. Civic club members also point out the possibility of having players from Salt Lake and north-j ern points come here to play, j Many towns have taken advantage ad-vantage of the F. E. R. A. money j to construct courses since there isn't a great deal of material needed and with the labor cost furnished it doesn't take a great outlay of money. It is believed that memberships could be sold for $10 each for resident memberships mem-berships and possibly $15 each j for non-resident memberships. In . this way it would be possible to j go out and sell enough member-1 ships to raise the required amount of money that would be needed for material. j There are several sites avail-1 able. One Just east of town and j another up on the road to En-; terprise, just below the black hills. Those backing the latter; site point out that there would , be a water supply available for i greens, after the city water is j piped. They also point out that; it would be out of the dust and would be dry practically all. year long. Those against this location say that the land does-, n't lav right for a golf course. At anv rate the land is available and an agreement could easily be reached as to the location if the monev is made available and enoungh sport enthusiasts get b-hind b-hind the proposed club to put it over, is the belief of those backing back-ing the course. |
