McArthur, John T. Woodbury, Jr., and Arvel Webb were appointed as a committee to investigate investi-gate the present dairy and dairy products prod-ucts business with the view of ascertaining ascer-taining the advisability of the establishment estab-lishment of a dairy plant in this district. dis-trict. Through correspondence and by personal per-sonal contact, the committee was able to compile the following approximate information : Cream shipped out of the towns of the county per year: Gallons Leeds 800 Washington 884 Santa Clara 1676 Ivins 1676 St. George 30,000 Central, Veyo, Gunlock 5880 Total 40,916 Ice cream shipped in per year: Gallons St. George 7500 Washington 40O Leeds 100 Total .... 8000 Cheese shipped in per year: Pounds St. George 20,000 Washington 1000 Santa Clara. 2000 Central, Gunlock, Veyo 1000 Total 24,000 Butter shipped in per year: Pounds St George 20,000 , . Butter substitutes 4000 Enterprise is not listed as it was thought they may want some kind of a plant of their own. That district is perhaps the heaviest exporter of cream in the county. The above figures indicate what is being done as a side issue in the way of production of dairy products and the production would no doubt be greatly increased if dairying were made a business on our farms. |
