Show UTAH RANGE AND LIVESTOCK REPORT FOR SEPTEMBER 1ST Ranges further deteriorated during August owing to lack of rainfall; the average precipitation for the state that month was about one-fifth of the normal amount. However the rainfall rain-fall of the four months ending with June was sufficient to make a fairly good growth of feed, and this has been drying during the past two months. Where this dry feed is sufficient for the stock", it is expected that they will come off the range with somewhat harder flesh than usual; but in many localities the feed has become scarce and by the end of September a lowering low-ering of the condition .of cattle and sheep may expected, unless good rains come meanwhile. Stock water is becoming be-coming scarce in some localities, thus further reducing the supply of available avail-able range. Prospects for fall and winter win-ter range are not good. The total hay supply, including this year's crop and the carry-over from last year, is about the same this season sea-son as it was last; and the food grains also amount to about the same as last year's supply. A feature in the production pro-duction of feed grains in Utah is the increased popularity of barley. The big increase occurred in 1927 over 1926; and a further increase in acreage was made in 1928 over 1927. |
